The Villarreal head coach says the team “is suffering a lot” because of the obligation to win
Villarreal CF head coach, José Rojo Martín ‘Pacheta’, said he was proud of his team’s reaction to come from behind against Maccabi Haifa (1-2) in a very difficult match for the Yellows. “We started with a good control of the match. We are suffering a lot. We are not enjoying it. We have to win by obligation and we are too tight. We didn’t get our scoring chances right and we ended up in trouble. We managed to recover and I’m proud of the players’ reaction. It’s OK to make mistakes, you have to be brave. Enjoyment is not incompatible with responsibility. We could have scored a lot more goals than we did. In the end we got the win that puts us on six points,” he commented.
For the manager from Burgos, the team must continue to improve: “We have to be aware of the mistakes we make. We have to finish the play more by being incisive. The goals came from the outside breaking into space. We have detected the problems, but we are finding it hard to fix them.”
To finish, Pacheta stressed that the team is struggling to get games going: “The missed penalties are one-off situations that tend to happen when things go wrong. In the end we put it right with two fantastic actions. The suffering was tremendous. These victories taste good, but you don’t enjoy them very much.”
