The Yellows’ good run of five matches without losing ends with a defeat to a strong opponent
Villarreal Women ended their five-match unbeaten run with a 1-4 defeat to Madrid CFF. The Yellows’ goal came from Claudia Iglesias, while the visitors’ goals were scored by Gio (3) and Ana.
The first half was very even, with clear chances for both teams and two goals scored.
Villarreal Women’s first chance came with a left-footed shot from Raquel that Paola was able to keep out, while Madrid CFF replied soon after with a double chance that was saved by Carmen Carbonell and a subsequent clearance from the defence on the same line.
Gio received an inside pass and scored with a cross-shot (0-1). Despite the goal, the Yellows were putting in a great performance. As a reward, the equaliser came after the first half hour.
Raquel took a free kick and the ball was headed into the net by Claudia Iglesias (1-1, m. 32).
At the start of the second half, McKenna could have put the Yellows ahead after some great play from María Llompart, but her cross-shot went just wide. Madrid CFF made no mistake with two goals in less than two minutes. Both came from Gio, first with a beautiful lob (1-2, m. 52) and shortly afterwards with a left-footed shot from the edge of the area (1-3, m. 54). The final goal which made it 1-4 came from Ana, who scored with a well-placed right-footed shot (m. 75).
Villarreal Women’s next game is on Sunday 24th March against Levante Las Planas (2pm CET).
