The B team beat Racing de Ferrol thanks to an Álex Forés goal and stay alive in their battle to avoid relegation

Villarreal B achieved a very important victory against Racing de Ferrol and remain in the fight to stay in the division (1-0). The only goal of the game came from the Mini Submarine’s top scorer: Álex Forés.

The Yellow Submarine were going into the match with the objective of winning again at home to forget the defeat suffered in the previous matchday. Every point is vital in the fight for survival in the division and the young players coached by Miguel Álvarez had it clear from minute one.

Once again, he relied on the same XI from the last few games to face a Racing de Ferrol side who are aiming to get into the promotion zone, so the task for the Yellows was not expected to be an easy one.

Villarreal B had the best two chances of the first half. Less than 30 seconds had elapsed when Ontiveros picked up a loose ball in the box and forced Cantero into a superb save to prevent a 1-0 lead.

The Mini Submarine, well positioned on the pitch, were creating danger. In the 20th minute, Ontiveros crossed into the box, Forés headed the ball across the face of goal and Carlos Romero failed to beat Cantero, who this time cleared the ball with his foot as the goal was already being chanted in La Cerámica. The former Villarreal B goalkeeper prevented what seemed inevitable.

In the second half, Racing de Ferrol began to push forward in search of a goal. The Yellows were finding it harder to generate play and as a consequence, the chances were not coming. Miguel Álvarez moved the bench, bringing on Jorge Pascual, who made his comeback after serving a one-match ban.

The only goal of the game came soon after. Javi Ontiveros produced a brilliant inside pass over the top for Álex Forés to score with a right-footed cross from outside the area (m.75). It was not easy at all. It was a goal of the utmost importance for the Yellows’ hopes.

The final minutes of the game were nerve-wracking, but the Mini Submarine were able to withstand Racing de Ferrol’s attacks.

Villarreal B’s next game will be away against Sporting Gijón (Sunday 28th April).
