The Mini Submarine return to winning ways after beating Burgos with goals from Pau and Forés

Yes, they can. Villarreal B got back to winning ways against Burgos thanks to a magnificent team performance and goals from Pau and Álex Forés, both in the first half. The Burgos goal came from Fer Niño in the final stretch of the game (2-1). The Yellows went into the game with the heavy burden of seven games without a win, but with their hopes intact as they looked for a win that would allow them to dream of survival in the Spanish top flight.

Miguel Álvarez put out a starting line-up featuring the young Pau Navarro as a central midfielder, despite the fact that his usual position is that of central defender. The two centre-backs were also new to the side, with both Pablo Iñiguez and Lekovic making their comebacks after overcoming their respective injuries.

The game was thrilling from the very first minute, with both teams committed to the task in hand. Villarreal B tried to dominate possession, while Burgos were looking to counter-attack.

The first goal came from Pau Navarro. His acrobatic finish with his back to goal was his first goal in professional football. What a moment and what a way to do it (m. 15).

The Yellows’ second goal was not long in coming. It was the 41st minute of the match when Álex Forés picked up a loose ball in the area to send it into the back of the net (2-0).

Burgos reacted and came close to pulling one back in stoppage time in the first half when Sancris hit the crossbar. A matter of centimetres.

The second half started with Burgos dominating, while Villarreal B opted to stay organised, stop their opponents’ attacks and hold on to their valuable advantage on the scoreboard.

They did just that until the 83rd minute, when Fer Niño headed home from a corner to add drama to the final moments (2-1).

The Mini Submarine were able to fight right to the end and take three golden points. Villarreal B’s next game is away to Alcorcón on Monday 15th April (8:30pm CEST).
