Sara Monforte: “Our aim is a clean sheet”

Villarreal Women will be looking to continue their good form against Madrid CFF (Saturday, 12pm CET)

Villarreal Women head coach, Sara Monforte, appeared at the press conference ahead of the match against Madrid CFF (Saturday 16th, 12pm CET) at the Mini Estadi.

Here is what she had to say:

The keys to the match

“Madrid CFF are a very dominant and high-scoring team. In fact, they are one of the teams that score the most goals, with an average of around two goals per game. I think it will be a very difficult game in which we have the challenge of keeping a clean sheet, and hopefully we can do it. They are a team that dominates a lot of combination play, both inside and outside. They also have a very good inside game, with players who break up space very well, and a very strong defensive transition. The game is very much about our block, having to defend very well and try to catch them in transition. We’ll also be looking to steal the ball from them so that we can play more possession and play more in combination, looking for our chances to score.”

A message to the fans

“We’ve been scoring points at home for many games in a row and I think the fans are enjoying themselves. The football Villarreal Women are playing is attractive and that helps the fans to enjoy themselves and make them want to come to the ground. It’s very important for us because if we get three points tomorrow, we’d be halfway to survival. It’s very important for us to be in communion with our fans..

Balance of the season

“The team has taken a step forward after Christmas. It’s true that the defeat against Levante UD hurt us a lot, but since then the team has grown a lot. On Matchday 20 we have 20 points and we are six points clear of the relegation zone. The team looks at a different level, with a different face, that has a clear idea of what it has to do, with a strong defensive game, and that is moving forward. Our balance is positive and hopefully we can soon get those two victories that could give us mathematical survival.”
