Fernando Roig presided over the presentation of the two new sections of the walk of fame at the Estadio de la Cerámica
Villarreal CF have unveiled two new magical moments in the club’s history on Tuesday at the Passeig Groc at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The first promotion to the Second Division in the 1969/70 season and the winning of Europa League in Gdansk join the plaques of Santi Cazorla and Bruno Soriano in the walk of fame.
After the presentation ceremony chaired by the president Fernando Roig, in addition to the president of the yellow club, the first team player, Pau Torres, and Alapont, one of the architects of the promotion to the Second Division in 1969/70, also took part in a press conference.
“In this very special event we have celebrated two historic moments for the club: Villarreal’s first promotion to the second division and the achievement of the first major title in our history. Events like this help to make Villarreal CF bigger,” explained president Fernando Roig after the presentation of the event and, in turn, thanked all the players and presidents in the club’s history for “the great work they have done for Villarreal.”
From now on, the Passeig Groc will boast the heroes of the club’s promotion to the second division in the 1969/70 campaign. One of them, Juan Antonio Alapont, has spoken about how proud he is to see the image of the squad he was part of on the walk of fame. “Seeing the plaque brings back great memories. I want to thank the president Fernando Roig for his kindness and for the way he has behaved towards us.”
“For the players who are active today, it is a source of pride to see them on the walk of fame. Without them Villarreal would not be what it is today because that is where everything we have today began to be created. It is a great recognition for them,” said Pau Torres, who was also present at the event.
Asked about the sporting aspect, Fernando Roig and Pau Torres said that Thursday’s game against Real Madrid will be different to the one against LaLiga and called on the fans to support them in this difficult challenge to reach the next round.
