Villarreal Women tried for something special after Kayla McKenna’s equaliser, but they were unable to hold on in the second half

Villarreal Women had a very difficult task against FC Barcelona on this occasion. The visitors fought tooth and nail throughout the game and even put the Catalan side on the back foot when Kayla McKenna, after a great assist from Lucía Gómez, levelled the score (1-1). However, from the 64th minute onwards, the Yellows were unable to contain the league leaders.

In the first half, the Yellows’ defensive effort was outstanding. Bruna threatened with a powerful shot just before the start of the game, but it was brilliantly cleared by Carmen Carbonell. Barça continued to press forward, testing Villarreal Women’s defensive efforts, until they were rewarded in the 34th minute by Claudia Pina (1-0).

After the break, the away side took a breath of fresh air and came out to bite in the next 45 minutes. And so they did. Nerea Perez gave the ball to Lucia Gomez who, in turn, gave it to Kayla McKenna for the Jamaican to slot the ball past Sandra Paños in the 55th minute (1-1).

However, from the 64th minute onwards, Barça were back to their usual Liga F form, with Rolfö breaking the deadlock with a spectacular cross-shot from the left flank that ended up inside the goal. In the 70th minute, Alexia Putellas added the third from the penalty spot, and the last two goals were scored by Salma Paralluelo to seal the game (5-1).
