Miguel Álvarez analysed the upcoming match for the Mini Submarine against Recreativo de Huelva (Sunday, 12pm CEST)

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared in front of the media in the press room at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground to speak about the Mini Submarine’s match this Sunday against Recreativo de Huelva at 12pm CEST at the Mini Estadi.

Here is what he had to say:

Early season sensations

“I want to think about the big picture. You have to look at the games we’ve already played and the context in which we’ve played. It’s true that in football there’s a factor that you can’t really control, which is luck, and there are a lot of young lads who don’t have experience in this division. Playing in Primera RFEF is not the same as playing in the second tier. In this league you need different tools and we have to know how to adapt to unfavourable contexts.”

The team: a work in progress

“We are working with a lot of new people and people from abroad, with great physical and technical conditions, but on a tactical level there is a lot to work on with them. As every year there is a lot of work, which is what we coaches like to do, so that the players understand where they are and how they have to work to continue progressing. I believe in the work of the coaching staff, because I believe in the work we have done over the years in which we have been training players who have been growing along the way. We are well armed at the back, and in midfield and up front we have quality players.”

Next up:l Recreativo de Huelva

‘’They are a team that has changed a lot of people, with players who have moved up a level and come from the U19s. They’ve scored seven goals and conceded nine. They have a huge fan base, with a very good squad and players who know the league very well. Away from home they haven’t done well because they’ve conceded early, but in the second half they really push hard.”

Another tough test

“I think it’s going to be a tough test for us again. It’s a different opponent to the ones we’ve had, who we’ve played against two B teams. They’re going to demand a lot from us defensively. They also base their game on direct play, they’re dangerous at set pieces and they’re capable of pressing you high.”
