The Mini Submarine lose against Real Murcia after a Pedro Benito goal
A pity. Villarreal B stood up to league leaders Real Murcia in an intense match played in the rain at the Mini Estadi. A single goal from Pedro Benito decided the game, although the Yellows had clear chances to score against Gazzaniga, who was at his best.
The side from Murcia took the lead in the 17th minute when Pedro Benito headed home a precise cross from the left flank to open the scoring at the Mini Estadi (0-1).
The Mini Submarine didn’t let the goal get them down and looked hard for an equaliser. They had the chance to draw level just after the half-hour mark with two clear chances to score. First it was Quintero who shot too weakly after a great individual move, while just five minutes later Arnau Solà controlled with his chest and shot quickly but was met with a magnificent save by Gazzaniga.
At the start of the second half it was Real Murcia who could have extended their lead with a David Vicente counter-attack that was kept out by a miraculous save from Iker Álvarez.
Villarreal B’s best chance of the match came from Quintero. The Yellows No.19’s headed shot came back off the underside of the crossbar and then bounced on the goal line. Real bad luck.
The last few minutes were a continuous exchange of blows in which the goalkeepers were the stars of the show. In fact, Iker Álvarez had to pull off two great saves to keep the game alive until the very end.
Villarreal B’s next game will be away against Alcoyano (Sunday, 7:30pm CET).
