Villarreal has released the seventh instalment of ‘Centenary Memories’, which delves into the mythical promotion to the Second Division, which the Submarine achieved in 1970. A magical afternoon when the Yellows beat Bilbao Athletic (1-2) at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium to make a name for themselves in top flight football.

After the impressive victory in Madrid, the team arrived by bus in Vila-real, a town filled with euphoria. Several thousand fans welcomed the players and celebrated in style a promotion that would mean Villarreal’s first ever step in professional football.
