Villarreal face last game of the season against Osasuna, knowing they will finish eighth

Villarreal will bring the 2023/24 season to an end against Osasuna, in a match corresponding to the 38th LALIGA EA SPORTS matchday, which will take place next Saturday at 14.00 at the El Sadar stadium. The 4-4 draw in the last match against Real Madrid made it impossible for the Yellow Submarine to reach the last matchday with European options, so the only attractions for the match in Pamplona are the Pichichi Trophy for Sorloth and the possibility of finishing the season with a victory.

The Norwegian striker is one of the leading names of the final stretch of the season after scoring ten goals in the last eight games, four of them in the last match at the Estadio de la Cerámica against the league champions and Champions League finalists. He is currently the competition’s top scorer with 23 goals, two more than nearest challenger Dobvyk, the Girona striker. Sorloth’s Pichichi, the Yellows’ priority against Osasuna.

Baena, who will return to the squad after his suspension, can also finish the season at the top of the assists ranking after having handed out a total of thirteen assists throughout the season. He will do so if he is not surpassed by Nico Williams, who, for his part, has eleven assists to his name.

Marcelino García Toral’s side beat Osasuna 3-1 in the first meeting of the season thanks to a Morales hat-trick, and last season’s encounter at El Sadar ended 0-3. However, any result, against an Osasuna side who also have nothing at stake in the standings, will not change the Yellow Submarine’s finish to the season in eighth position due to the current four-point gap to both seventh-placed Real Betis and ninth-placed Valencia CF.

Mario Melero López will be the principal referee of the match, with César Soto Grado on VAR.
