The Yellows’ head coach underlined his team’s excellent reaction in the second half after the away team’s equaliser
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral has expressed his satisfaction with his side’s 3-1 win over UD Las Palmas at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
“The result is fair. We achieved an important victory, which puts us third, and with which we leave very happy,’ said Marcelino about the match against the Canary Islanders.
He also praised his team’s second half performance: “After the 1-1 draw, we were very good. We generated danger and played as a team. We had everything: criteria, fluidity, chances, a missed penalty, a goal disallowed for offside… In the first half, we didn’t press well and we weren’t accurate in our passing. We lacked pace. We looked too much for the counter-attack. Although it’s true that’s how we scored the first goal.”
Despite the victory and the dream start to the competition, the head coach assures that Villarreal have room for improvement: “Our objective is to be better. And it’s clear that we have to improve many aspects of the game, but we’re doing well. We are a team with a lot of new players and a very difficult starting calendar. We are proud of these players. Many of them don’t speak much Spanish, but they work hard and want to win games. That’s why we are very grateful. We would all have signed up to be like this at this stage.”
On the other hand, Marcelino thanked the fans for their involvement during the 90 minutes of the game: “We thank the fans. They are with the team. It’s true that the team is working hard, working and fighting to win every game. They are transmitting ambition, enthusiasm and passion. And the fans feel it. We are pleased that they enjoy it and that they can help us.”
