Academy players learned about nutrition to take the step to living in their own flats

Villarreal and Herbolario Navarro continue to work hand in hand and organise joint activities for nutritional training. The players from the U18s (Juvenil A Roda) team, who will face the transition next summer from living in a residence to living alone in a flat, attended this gastronomic course organised by Villarreal’s partner organisation to learn how to cook in a healthy and self-sufficient way. The workshop took place in the new El Vasco restaurant, located on the corner between Fondo Sur and Tribuna Preferente at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Lluís Penyafort, gastronomic advisor at Herbolario Navarro, was in charge of giving this training to the footballers, preparing “two simple dishes such as hummus with chickpeas and beetroot and lentil chips to highlight vegetable protein, one of the bases of the diet, and a wholemeal pasta that sportsmen like so much, because of the fibre it will provide, with vegetables and chicken as protein.” As Penyafort explains, it is “a very complete meal that they will be very happy to eat, so that they can enjoy eating and taking care of themselves.”

For his part, Villarreal doctor and nutritionist Miguel Pérez stresses that “from a very young age, we have to start with nutritional education in schools and in private centres like Villarreal.” He added: “Villarreal is committed to this from a very young age so that when they reach the elite, they have the foundations that will serve them.”

Villarreal CF and Herbolario Navarro teach the players of the Yellows Academy to link gastronomy with high sporting performance. For the gastronomic advisor of the natural and healthy food company, “it is an honour to be able to participate in such a beautiful project with Villarreal.”
