A great Villarreal B were denied in stoppage time despite defending a 1-0 lead for more than 80 minutes
Villarreal B, despite playing a great game against Oviedo, saw the three points slip away in stoppage time (1-1) after defending tooth and nail a 1-0 lead after Forés had scored in the ninth minute. The Yellows, however, once again gave a lesson in grit and hard work with a dedicated team who gave their all on the pitch at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
It was a first half of order and yellow domination against a well-positioned Oviedo side looking to counter-attack. The home side, using speed on the wings to get to Forés and Jorge Pascual, soon found the net. After nine minutes, Forés scored the first for the Yellows in a one-on-one with Leo Román, the Valencian’s ninth goal of the season.
Although the Asturians tried to react in the second half from the outset, Villarreal B were in perfect shape and came out with power against an Oviedo side that were looking for an equaliser. The Yellows withstood every challenge from the away side until, in stoppage time, Cardero equalised with a low shot from outside the area.
With this result, Villarreal B bid farewell to 2023 and close the first round in 17th position (24 points) and will visit Cartagena at Cartagonova next matchday (14th January, 4:15pm CET).
