Miguel Álvarez has stressed the importance of the clash against Racing (Sunday, 9pm CET).

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez has appeared before the press ahead of the match against Real Racing Club, corresponding to the Gameweek 28 of the LaLiga SmartBank season, in which the Mini Submarine will try to get their first win at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Here are his key statements:

A great match against Racing

“They are all great games. Then we have Eibar and Alavés. We’re really enjoying the division and we’re competing as hard as we can. We’re going to keep competing to get closer to winning, to get our first win at La Cerámica and open up a gap that would be important.”

A key match

“Now a gap has opened up with those at the top and those who are going to fight for other objectives. It’s a game that could be worth two, three or four points, depending on the result. These are important games despite there being 15 games left because they are against teams that are going to be playing for a lot of things like us.”

Aiming for the first win at home

“One of the facets of a coach is to project calmness to the kids. No problem lasts forever. If we keep working like this, we’ll be closer to our first win at La Cerámica. In a 42-game championship, a win or a loss can’t knock us off our stride. It’s part of the process of a competition and we have to make the best of it.”

The keys to the match against Racing

“It’s a team that are on the up and against a team like us, who are going to be fighting for it. They are nothing like Racing from the first half of the season because a lot of new players have arrived. It will be a very difficult game. I hope the lads know how to handle the game, play their football and compete calmly.”
