Fatou Kanteh’s goal was enough for the Yellows to a point against a tough opponent in Costa Adeje Tenerife

Villarreal Women, still unbeaten since 27th January, were back in Liga F against tough opponents Costa Adeje Tenerife (with a record of two draws and three defeats in their last five meetings), and did so by picking up another important point.

In the first half, just 11 minutes into the game, the side from Tenerife were down to ten players. Their goalkeeper Noelia Ramos was sent off, with a straight red card, for elbowing Claudia Iglesias to the ground. With the goalkeeper sent off, Estella had to be substituted so that Cheza could go in goal. However, the Yellows were unable to capitalise as Fatou Kanteh missed the spot-kick.

In fact, the home side seemed to gather momentum and enjoyed a number of dangerous chances led by Koko Ange, but they were unable to find the target. In the end, the first goal of the game fell to the Yellows thanks to a fine strike from Fatou Kanteh (m.31, 0-1). However, the joy was short-lived for Sara Monforte’s side as Clau Blanco managed to latch on to the ball and send it into the back of the net to level the match before the break (m.39, 1-1). The last chance of the first half fell to Kayla McKenna, who had been left virtually on her own in front of Cheza, but she was unable to make real contact.

The start of the second half was laboured, with a lot of uncertainty in the actions of both the home and away sides. Little by little it was Costa Adeje Tenerife who began to react, creating some very clear chances to score, but only lacking the finishing touch. In fact, in the 64th minute, Koko Ange’s goal was disallowed for offside and then Bel Beltrán crashed the ball against the crossbar.

Villarreal Women’s next match will be on Saturday 16th March, kick-off at 12pm CET, at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
