The Mini Submarine had more than enough clear chances to claim all three points
Villarreal B earned a hard-fought point against Ibiza at the Mini Estadi in a match where the hosts created plenty of clear-cut chances to take the win (0-0). David Albelda’s side are now unbeaten in seven games and continue to strengthen their place in the play-off positions.
It was a game of reunions. Ibiza head coach Miguel Álvarez, assistant coach Javi Prats and left-back Arnau Solà all returned to the Mini Estadi, this time representing the opposition.
The hosts started brightly and carved out as many as three clear chances in the opening 45 minutes, with Hugo López heavily involved in two of them.
Just after the first quarter of an hour, José Gaitán led a move and played the ball out to the right for Albert García, who drilled a low cross into the heart of the box. Hugo López met it from close range, but the ball stayed out thanks to a stunning save from Ramón.
The Ibiza goalkeeper was again called into action shortly afterwards, this time to keep out a header from Hugo López following a fine cross from the left by Eneko (20’).
Right on the stroke of half-time, Villarreal B had another big chance. José Gaitán, a constant threat to the opposition defence, beat his man and unleashed a powerful strike that was once again denied by Ramón.
Early in the second half came yet another opportunity for the Yellows. Diatta struck fiercely from the edge of the area, Ramón could only parry it, but Albert García was unable to turn the rebound into the net (55’). It seemed unbelievable.
From then until full-time, the Mini Submarine kept pushing without reward. Villarreal B’s next match will also be at the Mini Estadi, against Hércules (Sunday, 12pm CEST).
