Villarreal will host Real Madrid in the last home game of the season at the Estadio de la Cerámica
Villarreal will welcome Real Madrid to the Estadio de la Cerámica in the match corresponding to Matchday 37 of the 2023/24 LALIGA EA Sports season, this Sunday at 7om CEST, in what will be the last home game of the season and the penultimate game of the championship.
Marcelino’s men are still on an upward trajectory. And they come into the match after beating Girona at Montilivi last Tuesday, in a game in which the Submarine were able to hold their nerve, and thanks to their defensive solidity, and a second-half goal from Traoré, they took home the three points. The Submarine, along with Real Madrid, are the only team to have beaten Girona at their home stadium.
Following the win over Girona, Marcelino’s side now occupy eighth place in the league table with 51 points. However, taking into account only the second half of the season, Villarreal would be in fourth place with 32 points, behind only Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, confirming the team’s growth since Marcelino’s arrival on the bench at La Cerámica.
Real Madrid, for their part, will visit the Yellows’ ground in their best form of the season. They arrive in Vila-real having just been crowned LaLiga champions and qualified for the Champions League final, which they will play on 1st June at Wembley (London). They showed their good form by thrashing Alavés (5-0) in their last match.
In terms of goals, Jude Bellingham, one of the great sensations of the season, has stood out above the rest. The English midfielder is the second top scorer in LaLiga EA Sports alongside Alexander Sorloth, with 19 goals. Therefore, on Sunday, at the Estadio de la Cerámica, there will be a duel in the race to be crowned Pichichi, which, with two games to go, is currently led by Artem Dovbyk, Girona’s striker, with 20 goals.
Against Real Madrid, the Submarine face a big challenge. The Whites have lost just one game in this edition of LALIGA and the record at the Estadio de la Cerámica favours them. In the 23 LALIGA meetings between the two sides, Villarreal have won on four occasions, drawn on ten occasions and lost on nine occasions. However, the Submarine have not lost at home to Real Madrid in LALIGA since 2017, with Villarreal’s last victory coming in last season’s 2-1 win, in which goals from Yeremy Pino and Gerard Moreno earned them all three points.
Refereeing team
Alejandro Hernández Hernández will be the main official for the game, with Eduardo Prieto Iglesias on VAR.
