The Yellows’ B team beat Nàstic de Tarragona thanks to a José Gaitán goal and strengthen their place in the top end of the table
Villarreal B picked up three hugely important points away at Nàstic de Tarragona thanks to a strong all-round team performance and a solitary goal from José Gaitán (0–1). The Yellows’ B team are now eight league matches unbeaten and continue to consolidate their position in the upper reaches of the table. In fact, the Mini Submarine currently occupy a promotion play-off place, although postponed matches on this matchday must still be taken into account.
David Albelda named a starting eleven that included the return of Carlos Maciá in midfield after his regular involvement with the first team.
The opening goal arrived in the first quarter of an hour. Nízar played the ball into José Gaitán, who scored a trademark goal. He received the ball on the left, cut inside and unleashed a powerful right-footed strike into the far corner, leaving the home goalkeeper with no chance (0–1, 15’).
Just after the half-hour mark came another key moment in the match. J. Jardí was shown a straight red card following a heavy challenge on Arnau Forés. The incident was reviewed by the video assistant referee (35’).
In the second half, the Yellows’ B team controlled proceedings, looking to kill the game off whenever possible. They created several clear chances, with Rebollo forced into a number of difficult saves. The clearest opportunity fell to José Gaitán, who finished off a textbook counter-attack, only to be denied by a miraculous save from the Nàstic goalkeeper (73’).
The match became more complicated in the closing stages with José Gaitán himself being sent off after receiving a straight red card. Villarreal B dug deep to hold on and claim three precious points.
The Mini Submarine’s next fixture will be against Eldense at the Mini Estadi of the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza (Saturday, 4:15pm CET).
