Villarreal secure their fifth win in six UEFA Youth League matches thanks to goals from Seydou Llopis and José Ángel Gaitán
Villarreal U19s closed out the UEFA Youth League group stage with five wins from six after defeating FC Copenhagen (2-0). A stunning strike from Seydou Llopis just before half-time and a superb counterattack finished off by José Ángel Gaitán put the Yellows provisionally in fourth place – pending results from the remaining fixtures – with 15 points from a possible 18.
The match began with shared possession and chances at both ends. Moussa Traoré had the first attempt in the 21st minute, but his shot flew over the bar. Moments later, Dani Reyes went close after being set up by Seydou Llopis, but the Danish goalkeeper denied him in a one-on-one.
Copenhagen threatened through Frimpong and Moalem, yet both efforts were met by Pau Polo, who protected the Yellow goal with authority.
Just when it seemed the first half would end goalless, Seydou Llopis produced a moment of brilliance, firing into the top corner to make it 1-0 in the 43rd minute.
After the break, Villarreal took control of possession and the tempo. Pepe Reina’s side began to create a series of chances: Moussa Traoré came close in the 59th minute, Hugo López forced Buur into a save in the 65th, and Seydou Llopis continued to cause problems. Further opportunities followed for Gaitán and Álvaro Alcaide.
As the match approached the 90th minute, Copenhagen pushed forward and generated several dangerous chances, but Pau Polo delivered an outstanding performance to preserve the lead.
With the visitors fully committed in attack, Villarreal struck on the counter. José Ángel Gaitán drove forward with composure and finished calmly to seal the 2-0 win in added time (m.90’+5).
