Marcelino emphasised that the team knew how to suffer and had the right attitude to beat Osasuna
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media to analyse the win over Osasuna (3-1). “We really needed this victory. I thought so before the game and, after the game, I reiterate the thought. We started badly in the first half. We didn’t look good and Filip kept us in the game thanks to his saves. After the break we improved a lot. We found some fluency in our play and we were able to score goals,” said the Asturian coach.
Despite the win, Marcelino acknowledged the good performance of the opposition and added that they deserved more at La Ceramica: “Osasuna were better in many moments and had clear chances to go ahead on the scoreboard. We knew that to win we had to suffer and that’s how it was. We were accurate in the penalty area and in football that’s the defining factor. I’m very grateful to the lads for the hard work they put in to get this victory, which is very important.”
In the same vein, the Yellows’ manager underlined the importance of the win: “The results at home have been bad so far and that was weighing heavily on us today. Winning at home was the starting point we needed. We won with difficulty and that’s why it’s not all over now. We are not going to change the dynamic with this win. But we’ve won, which is important to continue on our way.”
Marcelino also admits that the team has work to do to reach their best level: “We have to improve in many ways. In defence, I do believe that we have been solid against a team like Osasuna, who are very dangerous with attacks down the wings.”
Finally, the head coach assessed the performance of Morales, who scored his first hat-trick in LALIGA: ” With Morales we haven’t done anything special. We just gave him confidence. He came from few minutes and without scoring goals. The other day he scored two goals and today he opened the scoring with a simple goal thanks to Gerard and then he unleashed himself and scored two great goals. The goals the other day have given him confidence. We’re happy and hopefully he’ll keep scoring as we need them.”
