Sara Monforte’s team were unable to get past CD Alba Fundación in the third round of the cup
The visitors arrived in Albacete with excitement about playing in the Copa de la Reina, but were beaten by the side from La Mancha in the last second of the game.
In the first half, the Yellows threatened in the second minute of the game with a shot from Vera Rico and, almost immediately, Lucía Romero’s powerful effort ended up in the hands of the opposition goalkeeper. Villarreal looked bright with some very young players on the pitch (Vera Rico, María Romero and Lucía Romero) and others who had played less minutes in Liga F such as Queralt Gómez and Virginia Torrecilla. However, the situation was complicated by goals from Laura Ortega and Zafra before the break (2-0).
After the break, the introduction of players such as Fatou Kanteh and Pancha Lara brought freshness to the game. In fact, it was the Catalan attacker who turned the game on its head with two goals to bring the score level. The first goal saw Kanteh head home a cross, while the second saw her powerfully strike the ball so powerfully that the home keeper was helpless.
However, the result proved to be disappointing for the Yellows, who conceded the third Albacete goal in the 90th minute and thus said goodbye to the Copa de la Reina.
