The Soccer Tournament (TST) has announced the groups and schedule for the 48-team men’s competition in June in Cary, North Carolina. Villarreal have been drawn in Group J, alongside Como 1907, North Carolina FC (NCFC) and City Soccer Society.
The Yellows will play the first match of their group versus NCFC, at 5:30pm CEST (11:30am local time) on Wednesday 5th June. Their second group game will be against Como 1907 at 1:30am CEST on Thursday 6th June (7:30pm local time on Wednesday 5th June). In TST, there are 12 groups of four teams in total. The top two teams from each group and the eight third-placed teams with the highest point totals will advance to the knockout stage, which will be made up of 32 sides.
The Round of 16 and quarter-finals will take place on Saturday 8th June, the semi-finals will be on Sunday 9th June and the final, with a prize of a million dollars, will be on Monday 10th June.
Villarreal will be captained by Marcos Senna, with legendary striker Giuseppe Rossi also part of the squad. More players will be confirmed in the coming weeks, both Villarreal CF legends and players from the Yellows’ academies around the world.
Italian side Como 1907 reached the quarter-finals in TST 2023, with a team coached by Cesc Fàbregas and including TST Golden Boot winner Patrick Cutrone. NCFC will be returning to TST to play again at their home stadium, the WakeMedSoccer Park. It is US-based City Soccer Society’s first appearance in the tournament, like Villarreal.
