The event took place in the assembly hall of the Faculty of Health Sciences and was attended by vice-rectors Mamen Pastor (Students and Healthy Living) and Vicente Cervera (Infrastructure and Sustainability), as well as Villarreal CF’s head of External relations and protocol, Paloma Masó.
A firm commitment to university sport, as part of the Endavant Formació project
The Càtedra Endavant Villarreal CF de l’Esport is the cornerstone of the partnership between Villarreal CF and the Jaume I University. For the past 13 years, the Yellow Submarine has been awarding scholarships to elite athletes from the Castellón-based university, with the aim of promoting high-performance sport within the academic sphere.
The Càtedra was officially established in 2015 through an agreement between both institutions, although the scholarship programme had already begun in 2012. This academic year, a total of 89 athletes have received scholarships, bringing the total number of recipients to 557. During the ceremony, Paloma Masó congratulated the athletes for their dedication and discipline, stating: “It is a source of great pride for the club, which is fully committed to continuing this collaboration with the University for many years to come.”
The total value of the scholarships for the 2024/25 academic year amounts to €40,000, with the overall investment now standing at €360,000 since the programme’s inception. The initiative began in 2012 with an initial contribution of €10,000 and has grown steadily since. The scholarships aim to reward student-athletes for their academic performance, recognise their sporting achievements and help cover some of the costs associated with their studies.
