Villarreal Women pick up three important points on the road thanks to goals from Aixa and Rocío
Villarreal Women returned to winning ways—and did so by showing real resilience. An early strike from Aixa Salvador and a second-half penalty converted by Rocío García earned the Yellows a vital three points to strengthen their place in fourth in the standings.
The match could not have started better for Villarreal. In the fifth minute, Aixa Salvador tapped the ball into the net after a superb cross from Lauris (0-1). Shortly after, in the 21st minute, Lauris herself came close to doubling the lead following a delivery from Luna Figols, but her shot drifted narrowly wide.
Jordi Ferriols’ side were in control and enjoying the greater share of possession, but a single mistake proved costly. In the 30th minute, Méndez capitalised on an error from Montse Quesada to level the match at 1-1.
The second half brought alternating spells of possession and chances for both sides. Tenerife B threatened in the 47th minute, and Nerea responded at the other end in the 52nd.
The hosts found the net in the 65th minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Villarreal’s persistence was finally rewarded in the 70th minute when Rocío García converted a penalty to make it 1-2.
Tenerife B had one last chance from the spot in a controversial moment that saw Irene Miguélez forced off through injury. Despite the late tension, Montse Quesada stood tall and saved the penalty, securing all three points for the Yellows.
