Marcelino hailed his players’ second-half performance and valued positive the victory at the Benito Villamarín
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral appeared before the media to analyse the prestigious win over Real Betis at the Benito Villamarín (2-3).
“I must praise the team’s reaction in the second half. We thought we deserved more after the break and we showed a very good level at this ground, which is tough to do,” said Marcelino.
In the same way, the Asturian coach underlined the ambition and pride of his players during the second 45 minutes: “We reacted well. And we’ve picked ourselves up in a great way from Thursday’s game. Today we had a chance to show that the team is in good shape and the players did it.”
Despite the win, Marcelino also lamented their opponents’ maximum efficiency in front of goal. “They had two shots in the first half and they ended up scoring. It’s difficult to accept that, but it’s not the first time it’s happened since I’ve been here. There are opponents who have had a lot of success like today.”
Finally, the Yellows’ haed coach advocated enjoying the victory and thinking about getting a win in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 against Marseille: “Now it’s time to savour the win. Third in a row, which is very good for where we came from. After that, we need to get our courage up for Thursday’s game. We want to give our fans a win and at least reverse the feeling we had in the first leg. We can’t leave the Europa League like that.”
