Miguel Álvarez’s side were unable to overcome CD Leganés away from home
Villarreal B lost 1-0 at Butarque against CD Leganés in a game that was complicated from the start, but in which they never lost their nerve. The goal came from Karikaburru in the last moments of the first half.
Things got complicated early on for the Yellows, when after 10 minutes Pablo Iñiguez picked up a niggle and had to be replaced by Abraham. Leganés had a couple of good chances in the first quarter of an hour, but Diego Collado also came close to beating Riesgo and finding the net.
After those first fifteen minutes of end-to-end football, the Mini Submarine began to have control of the ball and forced their opponents to defend in a low block. Álex Millán and Collado almost got on the end of a Tasende cross, but the move ended in a corner. For the home side, Pardo tested Iker Álvarez from the edge of the area, but his rocket flew wide of the goal.
After the restart, Miguel Álvarez’s men came out with a vengeance and Carreira broke into the box in one of the first moves, creating a lot of danger. The Mini Submarine head coach introduced new blood with the triple introduction of Carlos Romero, Áex Forés and Fer Niño just before the hour mark. Sergio Lozano had a good chance from just outside the area, Sergio Carreira put in a dangerous cross and Javi Ontiveros hit the crossbar in stoppage time, but it was not enough to beat Riesgo.
The Mini Submarine lost their second game in a row after a good run in previous games.
