Sorloth and Gerard, decisive for Villarreal
Sorloth and Gerard, decisive for Villarreal

The Norwegian and the Spaniard have 21 goals between them so far this season

Villarreal CF currently boasts one of the hottest forward lines in Spanish and European football. Gerard Moreno and Alexander Sorloth have scored 21 goals so far this season.

Alex Sorloth arrived at the Submarine last July as one of the most exciting signings of the summer transfer window. The Norwegian striker arrived to shore up the Submarine’s forward line, to which, thanks to his experience in Spanish football – he played two seasons at Real Sociedad – he would adapt quickly and would also get on perfectly with Gerard Moreno, Villarreal’s current top scorer with 11 goals: ten in LALIGA and one in the UEFA Europa League.

The effectiveness of Sorloth and Gerard has not only helped both players to be among the top scorers in the competition, but also helped Villarreal to score more than half of the points they have so far in LALIGA. In total, Sorloth and Gerard’s goals have given the Submarine 15 points in domestic competition.

The Norwegian has scored in the wins against UD Almería (2-1), Granada (2-3) and FC Barcelona (3-5) and in the draws against Rayo Vallecano (1-1) and RCD Mallorca (1-1). On the other hand, Gerard has scored against RCD Mallorca (0-1), UD Almería (2-1), Granada (2-3) and FC Barcelona (3-5).

Both also played a key role in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. Sorloth scored the winning goal in the match against Stade Rennais at La Cerámica (1-0), also in the match against Maccabi Haifa in Cyprus (1-2) and, Gerard, in the decisive match against Stade Rennais in the last matchday with a Yellow victory (1-2).
