Villarreal head coach was frustrated that rain affected the game against Rayo Vallecano

Villarreal CF head coach Quique Setién has expressed his disappointment at his side’s defeat to Rayo Vallecano, which prevents the Submarine from fighting for fourth place on the final day of LaLiga. “It’s a shame because we wanted to have Champions League chances until the last game,” he said.

For the Yellows’ head coach, the rain affected the game: “The heavy rain affected our style of play. We always try to be at the forefront with the ball and the pitch was very difficult to play on, especially in the first half. It’s true that in the second half Rayo were effective and knew how to take advantage of their moment”.

Despite the defeat, Villarreal will finish the championship in fifth place. “It has a lot of merit and we have to appreciate what we have achieved. With three games to go we had qualified for Europe. In the end we finished fifth and the season has to be appreciated,” Setién concluded.
