Villarreal Women have their last battle in the Mini Estadi as they fight to stay up (Sunday, 8:30pm CEST)
Villarreal Women head coach Sara Monforte spoke to the media ahead of the match against Sporting Club de Huelva (Sunday, 8:30pm CEST) at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
Here is what she had to say:
Going into the game hoping to win
“We want to win. We have no choice but to win. That’s the only thing we can do. It will be a difficult match against a very dangerous opponent. They have nothing at stake and that makes them dangerous. We want to play freely, calmly because that’s the only way to win the game. We don’t want to put pressure on ourselves. We’re working well and we want to have the confidence to win the game.”
Sporting Club de Huelva
“It’s difficult to analyse the opposition. They have played with different set-ups. There is nothing fixed, but we have to focus on our game plan and do what we have been working on. Attack a lot and be good at keeping watch. We have to show that we are a top flight team in the next two games. Especially this week.”
A message for the team
‘If we take all six points, we are safe. That’s clear to me. We have to beat Huelva, which is the first and most important thing, and then hope that the others don’t win and see if it’s up to us on the last matchday. And if we don’t, we’ll go to Atlético to win. But the important thing is to win this first game. That’s what it all comes down to.”
A message for the fans
“The whole season is at stake. If we’re in this position, it’s because we haven’t done well so far.. It’s on us. We encourage people to come. We’re very lucky and I’m very proud of the fans of Villarreal Women. The fans have been there even though the results haven’t gone well. They deserve us to win the three points, for this weekend to be a party and for us to get to Atlético de Madrid alive, which is our objective.”
