The defender from Vila-real has given his verdict on a fantastic 2022 and predicted a 2023 full of emotions for the Yellows
Pau Torres took stock of the 2022 calendar year in front of the Villarreal TV microphones: “It has been a fantastic year. The team competed well in Europe. We overcame great rivals, the fans dreamed of the Champions League and we put the club back on a high European level. In LaLiga, we qualified for Europe and this season we are still alive in all three competitions. We are in the next phase of the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Conference League. In LaLiga, we have the whole second half of the season ahead of us. The break has been good for the team to continue to assimilate Setién’s concepts.”
As well as positively assessing 2022, the Yellows’ defender predicted a successful 2023 for Villarreal: “We hope to bring a lot of joy to the fans and that 2023 will be a prosperous year for the club. To open the year, we want a January with a lot of games, it would be a sign that we go far in the Copa del Rey. It’s a competition with a format that we like. It forces us to compete and it excites us.”
Finally, Pau Torres praised the club’s efforts to renovate the Estadio de la Cerámica: “The club has promoted a great project. The inauguration in a great game against Valencia will be special. The fans will really enjoy this new stadium. The work will be finished in March, but let’s hope that with this remodelling we will continue to enjoy Villarreal. The pitch will be spectacular, worthy of this club and of Vila-real.”
