The Villarreal head coach has praised his side’s work against Rayo Vallecano
Villarreal CF head coach, José Rojo Martín ‘Pacheta’, was full of praise for his players after the 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano. It was a hard-fought match for the Yellows. “I don’t like draws and I don’t like losing. We always come here to win, but this point is very valuable. It tastes good. In the first 15 minutes Rayo were better, then we had the goal and then they equalised. We recovered very well and had control of the game through the ball, but we were also attentive to the surveillance. The second half was similar to the first. We both had clear chances. I think the draw is fair,” he said.
This is the way forward for the manager from Burgos: “The team is growing and now we have to look for the player’s optimum form. We have seen an interesting Villarreal. The four defenders and the two midfielders played the game perfectly. We made Rayo run a lot. If you get out of their first line of pressure the horizon opens up.”
Yellow control was key. “When the game was going wild we had to be very calm because Rayo are in their element. We had a couple of moments like that and I liked our pause. We were balanced. I leave quite satisfied. I’m seeing the team happy and convinced in what they are doing. We are in a process. It’s going to be a long road, but we can do some very interesting things. It looks good.”
