The club is encouraging schools to participate in the Prothathlitis cinctorrensis nickname competition

Villarreal CF, through its Endavant programme, has created a competition to find a nickname for Prothathlitis cinctorrensis, the dinosaur that pays tribute to the club that was discovered by a group of researchers from the Grup Guix de Vila-real, the Jaume I University in Castelló and the University of Valencia on 18th May 2023 and which, just one day later, was presented at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

In this activity, whose main objective is to raise awareness of the dinosaurs of Cinctorres in a playful and creative way, only students in the 5th year of primary school in the province of Castellón will be able to participate. It should be noted that only one class and category per year can register (provided that the participating school has more than one).

The competition categories are as follows:

  • Category A: A piece of work on the excavations or dinosaurs of Cinctorres. The work can be a text, a poster, a podcast or an audiovisual piece that must be original and unpublished. As help to make it, you can consult the following website:
  • Category B: A non-scientific name for Prothathlitis cinctorrensis, the Villarreal CF dinosaur. The proposal must link the dinosaur with the club, so the proposal that relates both aspects will be valued and, together with the name, the choice of the name must be justified with two or three lines of text.

Important: schools have the option to participate in Category A, Category B or both, but only one entry per category.

Interested schools must complete the web form which can be accessed by clicking here or on the button embedded at the end of the news item, submitting, in addition, the work and/or name chosen, ordered according to the corresponding category and with the school’s identification details.

The period for participation in the competition will be from 10th January to 8th March 2024.

The winners will be selected by a jury made up of a representative of the Cinctorres Town Council, a director of the local palaeontological excavations, a palaeontologist and two representatives of the club.

Prizes for the contest

The winners in both categories will be awarded a trip to Dinomania (Cinctorres), a diploma and a miniature replica of the dinosaur for the school.
