Miguel Álvarez: “Oviedo are one of the fittest teams”

Villarreal B take on the Asturian side this Thursday at 7pm CET at La Cerámica

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared at the press conference ahead of the last game of the year. The Yellows will be looking for a win at home against a competitive Real Oviedo, who arrive at the Estadio de la Cerámica on the back of a good run of results. The match will be played on Thursday 21st December at 7pm CET.

Here is what he had to say:

Little time between games

“Time does not allow us to do more, but we have been working since July. You know how everything works. We’re adapting because it’s not the first time we’ve played during the week.”

The rival

“They have improved a lot with this head coach. Out of the last 13 games they have only lost one. That’s a feat in Segunda. He took them in relegation. He took over when they were in the relegation zone. I’ve told the lads that if we already had to work against Valladolid, it won’t be any less against Oviedo because they’re one of the fittest teams at the moment.”

Team improvement

“We are on the way. We are improving, but with young players we have to try to have balance over time. Whoever plays, we have to be clear that nobody can beat us in terms of rhythm and intensity. The day against Eibar it looked like we had won the Champions League. You can’t get your chest out because they’re putting you on the back foot. We have to compete at least as we did against Valladolid. We can’t be up and down. We’re on matchday 21 with a lot of games in hand. There are no more excuses. To win you have to offer things.”

Offensive and defensive work

“We continue to work a lot on the offensive. We’re working on everything because we’re in a reserve team. The most complicated thing with a reserve team is the defensive work, both in dynamic play and set pieces. We have improved and we don’t want to take a step backwards. The most important thing is to create chances. If there’s one thing we have, it’s talent on the ball and we’re working on that without the ball.”
