The Villarreal centre back will play against Chile and Bolivia at the end of March
Centre back Mateo Musacchio has been chosen by the Argentina Manager, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, for two Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying games. As a result, the Villarreal number 5 will play against Chile on Thursday 24th March in Santiago de Chile and against Bolivia on Tuesday 29th March in the Argentinean city of Córdoba.
This call up sees Mateo Musacchio return to the blue and white Senior team, with whom he first represented in 2011, under manager at the time Sergio Batista, in friendly matches against Nigeria and Poland. In September 2014, this time under Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, the Submarine defender was called up for friendlies against Brazil and Hong Kong, but an untimely injury put Musacchio on the sidelines and he didn’t return to play for the Senior squad until March 2015, when he was chosen to play in friendly matches against El Salvador (played 90 minutes) and Ecuador.
Two Reserve and Academy team players called up for the Dominican Republic and Poland Sub-17
Two Reserve and Academy teams players have also been called up for their respective national teams. The Villarreal B team’s versatile defender, Carlos Julio, will play for the Dominican Republic against Curacao in a knockout game in the Caribbean Cup (26th March in Curacao and 29th March in the Dominican Republic).
Also, the Juvenil B player Bartosz Wiktoruk has been called up for Poland U17s for a series of games against Montenegro (28th March), Serbia (30th March) and Ireland (2nd April).
