Marcelino: “We played at a high level”

The Villarreal head coach has praised the performance of his players after the impressive win against Real Sociedad

Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media to analyse his side’s important and valuable win against Real Sociedad: “We came into the game on a good run of form and competitiveness, in which the sensations were better than the results. We deserved more in all the draws we’ve had. Today we knew we were going to suffer. We were solid and more accurate than on other days in front of goal. We were solid and competitive. And we achieved a fair victory.”

On a similar note, he praised the performance of his players in what was a great game: “Real Sociedad pushed us quite hard at the start, but we took the game little by little. It was our merit. We played a good game against a great team. We conceded very little, occupied the spaces well and made the most of our chances. Real played a great game, with pace and movement. They caused us problems, but today we were better than them. We were more accurate and it’s a fair win.”

Satisfied with the result, Marcelino was ambitious and focused on the next game: “We’ve struggled a lot at our ground this year. We’ve drawn and lost a lot of games. Now, after this victory, we want to reaffirm ourselves at our ground by playing another good game and giving our fans a win.”

Finally, the Villarreal CF head coach had some heartfelt words of support for the victims of the tragic fire that took place yesterday in the city of Valencia: “On behalf of the club, I wanted to convey our condolences for the catastrophe that has taken place in Valencia. It has taken human lives. We want to express our solidarity with the people affected by this serious accident. We would also like to thank the professionals who worked and risked their lives to save so many people from the tragedy.”
