The Yellow Submarine fall to CD Alba in a match in which they had clear chances (1-0)
A bitter farewell to 2025. Villarreal Women closed the year with a narrow defeat against CD Alba in a match in which they created clear chances to score. The only goal of the game was scored by Laura Ortega from the penalty spot (1-0).
Both sides came into the contest with different feelings. Villarreal Women were coming off a win, while the team from La Mancha had lost their previous match. The Yellows were aiming for victory to consolidate their place in the upper part of the table, while CD Alba were looking to claim all three points to move into the top positions.
Jordi Ferriols’ side started the match in an organised manner, with clear ideas. As a result, only a few moments had passed when Moreira had the first chance of the match with a header that narrowly went over the bar.
Approaching the half-hour mark, another opportunity arrived for the Yellow Submarine, this time a very clear one. Aixa Salvador burst through with her pace and went one-on-one with the opposition goalkeeper, but her powerful effort was kept out by the CD Alba keeper.
In the 43rd minute came the home side’s reply. Fortunately, the local attacker’s shot crashed against the crossbar.
In the second half, the scoreboard changed amid controversy. The referee pointed to the penalty spot for an alleged handball by Nerea inside the area. Laura Ortega converted from eleven metres to make it 1-0 in the 60th minute.
The Yellow Submarine pushed until the final whistle, but the scoreline would not change. In the closing stages, Alexia Jr struck the post after a precise cross from Nerea from the right flank. So close.
Villarreal Women’s next fixture will take place on the weekend of 11th January 2026, when they host Real Betis at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
