The Yellows side failed to get a second win in a row at home to one of the best teams in La Liga
Villarreal Women lost to Madrid CFF at the Mini Estadi. The yellows failed to capitalise on their good moments of play and were punished by side from the Spanish capital.
The Yellows hosted Madrid CFF at the Mini Estadi of the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground in the match corresponding to Gameweek 19 of the 2022/23 Finetwork Liga F season. Sara Monforte’s side, who already beat the Madrid side in the first stage of the season (1-2), were looking for their second consecutive home win against the Whites, who needed to make it three wins out of three to stay in the fight for the European places.
The game started at a great pace. Villarreal Women, who were virtually the same team as in their last game except for Yeni Giménez and Pilar García, who started for the first time, almost took the lead before the tenth minute when Sheila’s right-footed shot went just wide of the left-hand post.
However, despite the good start from the home side, it was Madrid CFF who would take the lead on the scoreboard. Karen, in the 30th minute, put the Whites ahead with a goal straight from a corner. Just a minute later, Ana scored the second goal for the visitors.
The Yellows did not give up and, despite the double punishment they had conceded in practically two minutes, they continued to create some danger. Once again Sheila – this time with a header – and then Claudia Iglesias with a great shot from the edge of the area, came very close to scoring Villarreal Women’s first goal.
The first half came to an end with Madrid CFF with a two-goal lead.
Sara Monforte moved the bench at the start of the second half to try to change the face of the game. Captain Lara Mata and new signing Laura Rueda came on for Giménez and Llompart.
In the 55th minute of the match Rachael took advantage of a dead ball in the box to score Madrid CFF’s third goal.
Belén and Cienfu were also involved in the second half. However, Villarreal Women failed to react to Madrid CFF’s final blow and the game ended in a 3-0 win for the visitors.
