Villarreal B climb out of the relegation zone after a great performance against Alcoyano
Villarreal B moved out of the relegation zone with another win, this time against Alcoyano at El Collao (0-2), after an impeccable performance from the whole team. Led by an in-form Etta Eyong, who scored two goals, Miguel Álvarez’s side showed work rate, commitment and a lot of skill in a tremendously difficult place to visit.
In the first half, the Yellows showed not only composure, but also a great deal of control at all times. With a perfect sense of timing, Villarreal B first fended off the home side’s dangerous attacks, waited for their moment and, at the first opportunity, struck.
In the 19th minute, and after a good run, Requena slipped a perfect pass from the edge of the area to get past the Alcoyano defence and set up Etta Eyong, who made no mistake in the one-on-one with the home side’s goalkeeper to score his sixth goal of the season.
After the goal, the side from Alicante established themselves as the dominant force in midfield to lay siege to Rubén Gómez’s goal, but the Yellows, very well positioned, were able to repel every one of their attempts.
In the second half, the script hardly changed. Villarreal B halted Alcoyano’s initial onslaught, determined to equalise in a game that the Yellows, however, seemed to have got the measure of. The first warning of what was to come came in the 70th minute when Fabio Blanco was denied after going one-on-one with the Alcoyano goalkeeper.
Ten minutes later, in the 81st minute, Arnau Solà took the ball from the left and, with a perfect low pass, set up Etta Eyong for a killer pass to make it 0-2 and seal the game for the Yellows.
The next game for Miguel Álvarez’s side is next Sunday against Hércules at the Estadio Rico Pérez (5:30pm CET).
