Virginia García has analysed Villarreal Women’s upcoming match against Getafe CF (Sunday, 6pm CEST)
Villarreal Women head coach Virginia García has appeared in front of the media at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground to speak about the Yellows’ next match, away from home to Getafe at 6pm CEST.
Here is what she had to say:
An important victory to kick off the season
“It’s a very important win, because we were making our home debut, myself included. We saw a very solid Villarreal in defence, very competitive and very brave in transitions. It’s true that we have to continue to improve on the ball. For example, in the second half it was a bit more difficult for us to get out of our own half, because Barça subdue you and take the ball away from you. And at that moment, as you see you’re ahead, you don’t want to lose it. We have to continue in this line of growth and continue to see a recognisable, brave and competitive Villarreal.”
Nerea Vicente and Lauris, an outstanding job
“I don’t like to single out anyone individually, because the collective work was enormous, both from the players who started and those who came off the bench. Even so, it is true that Nerea Vicente came from playing almost no minutes and her performance was very good. As for Lauris, this is my third season with her, and I know what she is capable of. But I’d like to highlight the work and attitude of all the players.”
Aiming for everything
“We come into this league from a higher division and already in the first press conference we said that we are going to aspire to everything. It’s true that after a relegation it’s difficult to rebuild a squad, but for our letter of introduction, it’s been very good. Even so, I’d like to reduce the euphoria, because it was a very good letter of introduction, but it’s the first game. We have to keep improving things and keep working to get more of the ball. If we keep working on this upward trend, we’re going to see a Villarreal side that is going to aspire to everything’.”
The rival: Getafe CF
“I’m expecting a totally different game to the one we saw against Barcelona B. Getafe CF are coming from a deserved promotion to this level. They are a very competitive team, who are going to subject you to a lot of duels and second plays. We also have to take into account that their playing dimensions are smaller than ours. They are a team coming off a first league defeat, but they won in the first Copa de la Reina play-offs. They’re going to want to get a point at home and they’re a very dangerous team.”
