Unai Emery wants to sign off a historic 2021 with a victory against the Basque side

Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media today to analyse the upcoming game against Deportivo Alavés, corresponding to the postponed game from Matchday 4 of the 2021/22 LaLiga season, which will take place this Tuesday, at 7pm CET, at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

The Yellows managed underlined that Villarreal are on an upwards trajectory and that the aim for the team is to continue improving. “We’re getting results and we’re got confidence. We’re comfortable in how we’re playing, we’ve got good attitude and good results. The team has stepped up and now we’re keen and excited going into the game against Alavés.”

The Basque coach praised Deportivo Alavés, saying that a win would not be easy: “They’re a complete team, and one that is difficult to face. We respect htem a lot. To get a victory, we will need to work a lot and be clinical.”

Emery underlines that the Submarine want to sign off a historic 2021 with three points in front of their home fans: “We want to win, to put in a good performance, and for our fans to be with us for that. It won’t be easy. Alavés are a team towards the bottom of the table, but they have fewer points than they deserve to have. They’re a hard-drilled side, they have resources that could surprise you and tactically, they’re very strong. They know how to play with the ball and they also can go direct.”

Finally, the Basque manager emphasised the important of finding consistency in the league: “We’re playing the postponed game now, a game we wanted to play at the time. We’re going into it off the back of two wins in a row in LaLiga. We responded well against Rayo at home, and we were very good against Real Sociedad. We’re looking for consistency in the league.”
