Marcelino calls for defensive solidity and sensible attacking to overcome the German side (Tuesday, 9pm CET)
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral appeared before the media, accompanied by Santi Comesaña, to preview the UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, to be played this Tuesday at 9pm CET at the BVB Stadion Dortmund.
First of all, he expressed the squad’s positive feelings ahead of the clash with the German side: “Always positive. We are in the best competition — this is what we wanted. We are very excited for this match, at this legendary venue, against a top team. This is what makes Villarreal CF great as a club, and what makes the players and coaches great.”
On the match, the coach expects a closely contested game: “It will be a difficult match, it cannot be otherwise. We expect it to be balanced. We know they are dangerous in attack, but we also know we can hurt them. We must defend very well, attack with sense, be penetrative and aggressive in the final third. These games are usually decided in the penalty areas. Determination and finishing will decide the result.”
Asked about extending the club’s good league run, Marcelino stressed that the competitions are different, while underlining that the team is ready: “They are two separate competitions. The result in Cyprus was a blow, but the team reacted well afterwards. Now we hope to return to playing in the Champions League knowing we are a good team and have shown it. Competing at the highest level, I am sure the victory will come.”

Santi Comesaña: “We come without fear and to try to win”
Midfielder Santi Comesaña answered journalists’ questions in the BVB Stadion Dortmund press room.
The Villarreal player conveyed optimism: “We arrive full of enthusiasm. We are very eager to play here and to get our first win of the season in the Champions League. Tomorrow we will not be afraid; we will come here and try to win.”
