Villarreal CF and FC Porto have come to an agreement for the transfer of the Mexican defender

Villarreal CF have reached an agreement with FC Porto for the transfer of Miguel Layún, who will wear yellow for the next three seasons. The Mexican defender, who played for his country in the Russia 2018 World Cup, will join the Yellow Submarine in the coming days and will subsequently be presented as a new Villarreal CF player.

Miguel Arturo Layún Prado (25.06.1988, Córdoba, México) is a solid, versatile defender, with excellent ability to get forward. His main position is right back. Nevertheless, his ability to use both feet and join the attack means he can also play at left back and even higher up as a winger.

Developed as a young player at Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, Layún has since played for Atalanta, Club América, Watford FC, FC Porto and Sevilla FC. What’s more, the defender is also an international player for Mexico and has had an illustrious career with his national team. He won CONCACAF’s ‘Copa Oro’ in 2015 and played in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. At club level he has also been very successful, he won the ‘Torneo Clausura 2013’ and the ‘Apertura 2014’ with ‘Las Águilas del América’ as well as being crowned a league champion with FC Porto.

Sixth Mexican to wear the Villarreal CF shirt

Miguel Layún will become the sixth Mexican player in history to wear the Villarreal CF shirt. The first was Antonio De Nigris in 2002/03 and since then Guille Franco, Javier Aquino, Giovani dos Santos and Jonathan dos Santos have also represented the Yellow Submarine.
