Villarreal Women head coach Virginia García predicts a very tough match against Real Madrid B (Sunday, 4pm CET)
Villarreal Women head coach, Virginia García, has analysed the match against Real Madrid B (Sunday, 4pm CET). This is what she had to say:
Villarreal Women, through to the last 16 of the Copa de la Reina
“We said it was going to be a complicated tie, that AEM is a difficult ground to visit and we had the added difficulty of having very strong gusts of wind. We’re happy to get through to the next round, happy with how the team competed in a tough place, happy because we gave the players opportunities and they responded very well, and, above all, we’re happy for them. They played a good game and we believed until the end. Anything could have happened in that penalty shoot-out, but we had Montse with some great saves and we were able to go through, which was our objective.”
The draw for the last 16 of the Copa de la Reina
‘The Copa de la Reina is an exciting and motivating experience for the team and the whole club. Whichever team we get, we’re going to face it with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of desire. I have a team that I would like them to play us, but I’ll keep that to myself. We will be attentive to the draw and happy to be in that draw. Whatever we get, we’ll face it with all the excitement in the world.”
Next opponents: Real Madrid B
“Now we have to change our mindset, because we’re already in league mode, preparing for our next opponent. It’s a complicated pitch. Real Madrid B are one of the newly promoted teams, but they are also one of the strongest B teams in Spain. They have a lot of international players and many of them have already made their debuts in the first team. They are a difficult opponent and almost all of their matches are close, with very fair results. They are a team with a lot of individual players with very strong technical and conditional players. We have to approach the game with all the seriousness in the world, with the importance it has, and we will go there to get a win.”
Objective: to be stronger at home
“We have to get stronger at home. Last week against Albacete we got a good point, which we had just lost in the previous home game. It’s true that we are competing very well as an away team. We’ve dropped very few points away from home and that’s something in our favour. It’s going to be a very demanding week with two games, but we’ve seen that the squad responds very well in different contexts and we’re going to a difficult ground with the aim of continuing our away form.”
