Calleja is expecting a tight match against Real Valladolid.
Villarreal boss Javi Calleja has underlined his happiness at the 0-3 win at San Mamés on Wednesday night, but he confessed that the team is now focused in getting three points at the Estadio de la Cerámica. “Winning is always positive, as it helps to generate a positive and optimistic atmosphere. We have to further this and continue the good feelings we have at the moment with good results. Now we have an important goal, one that motivates us a lot, and that’s to get the first victory at home and hopefully we’ll do that this Sunday against Real Valladolid.”
With regards to the next match, the manager warned of the dangerous nature of the upcoming opponent: “Every opponent is tough. I think that now there’s not much difference between most sides, something that hasn’t always been the case. Real Valladolid are coming into the game on the back of two very good games, and they’ll be confident and believe in themselves.”
Calleja also admitted that he could see a positive progression in his side: “We have a great squad and the team is being consistent. We’re on an upwards curve. I believe that we’ve improved and we could argue that we have enough to beat anyone, but we have to show that match by match. I know that on Sunday we will have to be as convincing and incisive in both areas, as well as winning the second ball.”
Finally, the Yellow Submarine coach called on the ‘groguet’ fans to come to the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday: “I hope that people come to the stadium and that they support us despite the heat and the circumstances.”
