Unai Emery acknowledges it will be a tough challenge to try and win away from home against Elche CF (Sunday, 2pm CET)
Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media this Friday to analyse the upcoming match against Elche CF at the Estadio Martínez Valero (Sunday, 2pm CET).
The Basque manager underlined that the Yellows need to be demanding to get the win in Alicante: “Winning in LaLiga isn’t easy. There’s a lot to play for in every game. Elche want to move away from the bottom of the table. We need to put in an impeccable performance to get the win. We need to make as few errors as possible and be at a high level to get the three points.”
Before analysing the next game, Emery looked back on the last match against Atlético de Madrid: “We’re going into the game on the back of a draw against a big opponent. We wanted to get the win, but we’re getting closer to where we want to be in the table. Sunday is a very important match. We need to be capable of responding and fulfilling the aims and expectations we set ourselves.”
For the coach, the objective in Elche is to get the second away LaLiga win away from the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We’re having a few difficult moments regarding absences. We got a win against Real Sociedad, but we haven’t had the best results away from Elche that we want to sort. It’s a challenge that excites me and makes me more competitive when trying to get the team to perform at his best.”
Regarding the opposition, Emery underlined the confidence that the Yellows have: “We’re on a good run. They have quality players with good physical. Collectively and tactically, we want to be capable of stopping them taking control of the game. They play football well and they have a lot of options. We need to disactivate them. Defensively, we need to be solid because they will demand a lot from us, and with the ball, we need to position ourselves well and be capable of attacking dangerously. We need to put in a complete performance collectively and be clinical individually.”
