Miguel Álvarez believes his players can get something positive against SD Eibar (Friday, 8pm CEST)

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared before the media ahead of the Yellows’ match against SD Eibar, corresponding to Matchday 2 of LaLiga SmartBank, which will take place this Friday, 19th August, at the Mini Estadi. He highlighted the strengths of this group of his players, who can stand up to any opponent in the second tier.

First test at home after the win in Santander

“In victory, you grow, but as they are young players, we have to demand the same thing, although we are all happier. In terms of a change of mentality, we have to play away as well as at home, pressing high and looking for the opposition’s goal. The players are very clear that you have to compete in every game in any category, but also that this is Segunda and nobody gives you anything for free.”

SD Eibar

“Last season their opponents were playing for first place right to the end. I know their coach very well and he is very competitive. A large part of the squad is also still with them and they are clearly a contender for promotion.”

A solid block

“We have the same inertia as last year. In the first game, 17 of the 21 players were with us last year or with Villarreal C. They have the automatisms very much internalised and that’s what we’ve earned. That’s why everything we add up at the start is very important. We also have to be a strong team at home. That way it will be easier to get closer to achieving our objective.”

Personality on the pitch

“In the first game, I liked the personality the team showed in a stadium where there were 12,000 spectators. There were moments when we struggled, but we had a brutal personality on the ball, despite the fact that at times we went down. We’re going to compete every game by being ourselves.”
