Álvaro says the team must maintain its intensity against Celta de Vigo (Sunday, 6:30pm)
Álvaro González has burst onto the Submarine stage with a bang. The Cantabrian defender, who came to Villarreal this season from RCD Espanyol, has proven to be a real life saver in the Yellows back line. The Yellows Manager, Fran Escribá, demonstrated that he trusts completely in his defenders and that it is normal for him to make changes to the starting lineup. In fact, Álvaro has played 1,854 minutes in a yellow shirt this campaign, between the LaLiga Santander (1.083), UEFA Europa League (411) and Copa del Rey (360) competitions. In total, Álvaro has represented Villarreal on 22 occasions and to these statistics his two matches for RCD Espanyol at the start of the season must be added.
The centre back has one goal and one assist at the Estadio de la Cerámica, both of which he managed in the same game, against Granade CF. Álvaro analyzed the Yellows current situation in today’s press conference and was optimistic ahead of this Sunday’s match against Celta de Vigo at the Balaídos stadium (6:30pm CET): “We have to take advantage of this good run we’re on. Celta are a team that always play good football and we expect a tough match”.
Álvaro also commented that, “Celta play midweek and will be more fatigued than us and we need to take advantage of this. We have to make sure we pick up points in Vigo. I believe this team has the players to win at any ground”.
