Marcelino praised his team’s good performance, highlighting the importance of winning at home
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media after the emphatic 4-0 win over RCD Mallorca at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
After the match, he wanted to highlight the good play of his players, emphasising the success in front of goal and the good defensive performance without conceding a goal: “When you defend well, attack well, come out with precision and arrive with many players in the opponent’s area, you get a good result.”
The coach also stressed the importance of winning at home again at the Estadio de la Cerámica, as well as the need to improve in defence: ‘If we increase our defensive strength, we’ll score a lot more points. That will help us to score a lot. To be at the top, you have to score a lot at home. We didn’t score enough at home in the first half of the season. We want to improve those numbers. Today could be a starting point to achieve that.”
Marcelino has made it clear what Villarreal CF’s objective is, setting his sights on the European places: “We want to be in Europe. It’s where the club deserves to be. We started well, but as you go on everything becomes more difficult. The teams at the bottom are starting to add up. It’s been a very even matchday. Winning away will be more difficult. That makes it all the more important to win at home.”
Finally, the coach didn’t want to forget about the players who have recovered from injury: “If we have the full squad, we will fight for the top. We have very good players, as well as a good group of players who want to win, but you can never predict the future.”
