Javi Calleja praises his players’ “effort” in the victory over Valencia CF
An important win on a tough stage. Javi Calleja was proud of the “effort” his players put in to get the win against Valencia at the Mestalla (0-1). “We put in a great performance at a tough place to play. I’m tremendously proud of the effort my players gave today”.
The Yellows boss highlighted his team’s great performance in a match that was very close and the result was decided by small details: “We had a great game. We took the lead early on and from then on we knew how to be reliable when defending. In the second half, we managed to sentence the match but we weren’t clinical. In the end, it came down to the small details. The fact that we were concentrated throughout the whole game meant we came away with the win”.
Likewise, the Villarreal Manager praised his team’s growth with each game they play: “This team is getting better and better and our style of play is becoming clearer and clearer. In the last two matches we have defended well, been compact, and that has meant we’ve finished off the year with two important wins on the road. We’ve managed to close the points gap and extend our lead over the tems on our heels”.
To finish, Calleja recognised that the Christmas holidays will serve to give everyone a breather and then come back stronger to prepare for the cup tie against CD Leganés: “Now it’s time to enjoy this victory and rest these days so we can come back with our batteries recharged and ready to face the next match 100%”.
